Overplayed & Underwhelming: The Top 10 Songs That Need to Retire from Wedding Playlists

As a professional wedding photographer who has captured over 100 weddings, I've heard everything from classical pieces to modern hits. However, there are a few songs that have become my least favorite to hear at weddings due to their overplayed status. In this blog, I'll be sharing my top 10 least favorite songs to hear at weddings.

  1. Uptown Funk by Bruno Mars "Ah, 'Uptown Funk,' the song that's been the life of the wedding party since 2015. It's like that one uncle who tells the same joke at every family gathering. You laugh because you have to. in this case, you dance because you have to.

  2. Can't Stop the Feeling by Justin Timberlake "'Can't Stop the Feeling' is like that friend who just can't resist dancing at a wedding, even when the dance floor is empty. We used to feel the groove, but now it's gone.

  3. Sugar by Maroon 5 "'Sugar,' sweet as it is, has lost its sweetness at weddings. I really liked this song because Mike Posner actually wrote this hit.

  4. Thinking Out Loud by Ed Sheeran "Ed Sheeran's 'Thinking Out Loud' is a beautiful song, but it's so overused especially with first dance songs…

  5. Shake it Off by Taylor Swift "Swifties, I hear you, but 'Shake it Off' has been shaking up wedding receptions for years. I mean Taylor has a huge library of songs, just choose another one!

  6. Don't Stop Believin' by Journey "Oh, 'Don't Stop Believin',' the anthem for every drunk uncle and sloppy dance floor enthusiast. It's the slow-paced journey to the bar for another drink, but we can't deny its infectious spirit."

  7. I Got a Feeling by The Black Eyed Peas "This song was a hit in church youth groups and now it's at weddings? Talk about an unexpected journey. Let's stop that.

  8. 24K Magic by Mark Ronson/Bruno Mars "Bruno Mars, you're an absolutely incredible, but when DJ’s play your song over and over again every single wedding it gets so old.

  9. Yeah! by Usher ft. Lil Jon, Ludacris "Ludacris may be the highlight, but 'Yeah!' has become more 'Meh!' at weddings. It's like the enthusiastic guest who's always the first on the dance floor but forgets their dance moves.

  10. "Shut Up and Dance With Me" by Walk the Moon "'Shut Up and Dance With Me' - the song that's as repetitive as your aunt asking when you'll get married.

BONUS: EVERY FREAKING LINE DANCE SONG While line dances can be a fun way to get everyone on the dance floor, there are a few songs that have been overplayed to the point where they're no longer enjoyable. Songs like the "Cha Cha Slide," "Cupid Shuffle," and "Electric Slide" have become repetitive and predictable, and it's time to retire them from the wedding playlist.

While these songs were once great hits and crowd favorites, their constant presence at weddings has made them overplayed. Couples should consider branching out and adding new and fresh songs to their wedding playlist to keep the party going and the guests happy.
